Leonard Miller Principal Leadership Award

Leonard Miller |
Principal Leadership is the key to achieving high quality education.
We learned this through the evaluation of the South Florida Annenberg
Challenge initiative, the Florida School Report's Best Practices of High Performing
School's study, and our ongoing research and programs.
Superior school leadership needs to be recognized, rewarded, and
nurtured. Towards this purpose, we established the Leonard Miller Principal Leadership
Award. Leonard Miller was the Chair of the South Florida Annenberg Challenge from
1997 up until the time of his death in 2002. He was also the founder of the Challenge's
successor organization, the Council for Educational Change.
Mr. Miller firmly believed that Principal Leadership was the key
to unlocking school improvement potential. His leadership and vision inspired
the Council's Principal Leadership programs including: PASS, the Principal Leadership
Academy, the Accelerated School Administrator Program, the Professional Development
Initiative, and the Principal Portal.
This Award is intended to be an annual recognition. The first
award of $10,000 will be bestowed on a Principal from a former or present South
Florida Annenberg Challenge program or from a present Council program.
It is our hope that this award will shine a spotlight on extraordinary
principal leadership and the importance of the Principalship.
We could never hope to adequately immortalize the legendary work
undertaken by Mr. Miller to improve education. This is just one small tribute
to his ongoing legacy. It captures his unwavering conviction that:
"If Every Child Can Get a Quality Education, Every
Child Can Succeed."
